Chicago, IL - Wrigley Field

Wrigley Field

Preface: We had purposely made this Daniel’s 40th show because he loves sports and stadiums and we couldn’t have thought of a better one to house such an important milestone. Little did we know this would end up being the 2nd biggest Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps show ever!

Show Notes: What an unreal experience! Everyone was seemingly riding the high that was being able to play such an iconic venue and it carried over into the music and performance.
The setlist was the setlist we’re accustomed to seeing nearly every night now and there’s nothing wrong with that. With over 34,000 people watching you it’s important to put on the best show possible and the guys didn’t fail! They also included Creeker (more about that later).
Eatin’ Big Time kicked off the show and instantly generated a buzz in the crowd - as we assume it’s intended to do since it’s now the opening mainstay. Then Shake the Frost mellowed things back out before giving way to a hyped up performance of Down Under.
One highly notable setlist addition was Creeker. This was the first time it’d found a setlist this year and in the past 2 years hasn’t seen many plays (less than 10).
‍ ‍Creeker was one of the most apropos additions you’ll ever see to a setlist considering Tyler wrote it about Chicago. The wit to bring out such a song on such an important night simply highlights how ingenious the setlist creation is.
The boys rounded out the night with the usual closers, Whitehouse Road, Honky Tonk Flame, Way of the Triune God, Snipe Hunt, House Fire and Universal Sound. This ending is becoming more and more usual and each night these songs keep getting better and better!
We’re not too sure why these songs are chosen to complete most setlists but what we do know is that these last 6 songs are so clean and engaging that there’s nothing else we’d rather see to end a set.
Truthfully it’s difficult to write a fair review of this show given how important it was to us personally but what we can say is that you should check out a show at Wrigley Field if you ever have the chance. It’s something super unique and worthwhile!

Venue Notes: I mean, it’s Wrigley Field, we could spend hours here telling you about the flags, banners, and people who’ve stepped onto the field, but we won’t bore you with that.
Notably the venue is obviously a baseball stadium by norm which lends itself to concerts sometimes. This alone makes it super unique.
Our seats were floor seats and because of this we were actually on the baseball field itself. There’s nothing unusual about this baseball field as compared to one you’ve probably stepped on before but there is a feeling of it being different.
You’re surrounded by stands that seemingly never end and might as well just be skyscrapers and by a presence of history. Meanwhile there’s also a concert going on around you.
Inside the gates you can tell the venue is pretty dated. This is recognized by the tight passage ways and general appearance of the venue. But, what Wrigley lacks in modern-ness on the inside they make up for on the outside.
Outside you can find Gallagher Way which is an amazing area that houses restaurants and activities for fans.
Before, during, and after the show there was a merch booth set up in Gallagher Way allowing for people to pick things up early or even after the show. This is an amazing addition to any show in our opinion because we enjoy getting a poster and knowing we can do so before doors opening is great! Also, like most people, we hate having to lug around merch we’ve bought so being able to get it pre or post show is awesome!
This area is also highlighted by tons of signage for the event allowing for some good photo ops! Additionally this area makes you feel welcomed; like everyone there are friends. This is due to it’s vast openness and even though there’s a lot to do you don’t feel overwhelmed.
Gallagher Way also housed the Reverb and Libby tents allowing for fans to engage in Tyler Childers specific things while also enjoying Wrigley Field specific accommodations.

‍ ‍Parking Notes: You have to use SpotHero (or some other app) to park here; not because you’re forced to do so but because of its ease. We parked 1 mile away for $11 (we paid $2 extra to extend our parking time because we knew we may arrive early and stay late).
Wrigley itself offers no onsite parking and thus you’re left to figure this part out on your own. We didn’t even see signs eluding to where to park on our walk to the venue.
You’re just going to have to trust us here when we say buy parking in advance and be mindful that the further in advance the better deal you’ll get. We saw some parking spots within 1.5 miles that were $4-6. While we didn’t opt for the $4-6 options because they were under the train tracks we did opt for one slightly closer and only slightly more expensive in a paved parking lot.
Honestly, for a venue that offers no onsite parking, this wasn’t a bad setup. There are plenty of options for parking that fit any budget and need on apps.

Travel Notes: Well, you know we had to check out The Wiener’s Circle to do the Hickman Holler Hunting Club photo op! We grabbed one of their Chicago dogs which was pretty good (we’re not hotdog fans really so a ‘pretty good’ is actually high praise).
‍ Also, on this route, we stopped at a Bob Evans (in typical Ohio fashion) in Jackson, OH and must say it was one of the better meals on our entire trip. The server we had was outstanding and the food was even better.
We were in quite the hurry so that was the only 2 sit down locations we stopped at on this leg for the trip but they’re both must if you’re in the area. And it should be noted that we were wanting to stop at Rowdy’s Smokehouse in Jackson, OH but the place was plum packed! This is the 2nd straight time we’ve tried to stop and they’re absolutely full. So, as we always say, arrive early and enjoy the trip! ‍
