Panama City Beach, FL

‍ ‍Preface: We were on the way to see Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps at the Wharf in Orange Beach, AL so naturally we decided to stop and see Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps in Panama City Beach, FL‍. ‍

Gulf Coast Jam

Show Notes: Truthfully we had never heard of this festival before so we went into it blind. We were pleasantly surprised!
The lineup was filled with people we usually would never see live so we got to spend a lot of time roaming around and getting amped up for the headlining set the guys were going to play!
Right before Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps came on the stage Gulf Coast Jam did a short drone show which was welcomed by everyone! It was nice touch to a long and hot day.
Finally after hours of waiting Tyler Childers took the stage. The crowd couldn’t have been more ready!
We weren’t expecting Tyler to start acoustic at this show so when he walked out solo we knew we were in for something great!
The acoustic set contained the normal 3 songs: Lady May, Nose on the Grindstone and Follow You to Virgie.
Once everyone took the stage we were given a Shake the Frost opener which kept things mellow and then the jams started flowing.
Rustin’ in the Rain into Country Squire into I Swear (to God), all rocked out and getting the crowd hooked!
Then on the heels of these songs came All Your’n which was probably the loudest the crowd got all night. The setlist flow was perfect for this festival and crowd; it kept everyone interested and rocking the whole night but also allowed for lesser known songs to captivate people.
Jersey Giant was on the setlist and each night this song is finding more and more fans. While it wasn’t as loud as All Your’n it was very close. Even as an unreleased song the crowd acts as if it’s been released for years!
Fast forwarding to the end, the final 4 songs were the ones we’re used to seeing there: Honky Tonk Flame, Way of the Triune God, Universal Sound and House Fire.
This ending is near perfection and keeps the crowd engaged until the very end!‍ ‍

Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps from afar

Venue Notes: Great! Perfect, almost! The grounds are super spread out but the main stage doesn’t feel far away.
None of the lines merge together for merch, bathrooms, or vendors, so it’s easy to move around freely and not be in the way even though there’s thousands of people around you.
There were plenty of areas to get food. The merch line moved fast. There were tons of restrooms. All of these things make for an amazing festival.
All of those great things coupled together with the fact the grounds themselves were almost completely flat and offered plenty of shade in areas away from the stage made for a great day!
We would consider coming back here for any event and we hope Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps find their way back to this festival sometime!‍ ‍

Parking Notes: We parked on site and it was a breeze! We parked next to park/skatepark/water center and it was a cake walk to get into the venue. Though it was closer to a mile long walk.
Parking here was free for us but we think they made a mistake by allowing that to happen - there was no signage suggesting otherwise but there was also no attendant. So we don’t really know how much parking was or wasn’t.
Regardless, even if the spot we parked in would have cost $50 it would have been well worth it.‍ ‍

Travel Notes: The night before the show we headed to the beach since we don’t often get to visit it. We spent most of our time there and we must say this area of the country has much more laid back beaches than we’re used to.
We grabbed some food at Schooners - a seafood place which was about 10 miles south of the venue. It was AMAZING! Their tuna filets are some of the best Daniel has ever had!
Their menu is huge offering anything you can imagine and while it’s slightly more costly than some seafood places we’d suggest checking it out and enjoying your time there!‍ ‍
