Opelika, AL - Live on the Plains - Sistruck Farms
November 9th, 2024
Opelika, AL
Sistruck Farms
Preface: This will be a quick read!
Show Notes: The boys rocked the plains and the plains really didn’t deserve such goodness.
The setlist was exactly what we’ve began to see shaping up for the whole tour now and it feels fitting to send it off with Heart You’ve Been Tendin’.
Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps absolutely burned this place down and we absolutely loved their set! It seemed as if they had a similar experience to us and we are glad they stuck it out and put on a hell of a show!
Venue Notes: Sistruck Farms is the worst venue we’ve ever seen Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps at and it isn’t even close.
Daniel stood in line for over 2 hours to get food for everyone only to get to the front and realize the ‘line’ he’d been standing in was merely a secondary line that didn’t lead to any cash register to purchase food; thanks to the guy he made friends with though he was able to hop in another line to attempt to get food.
Sadly the venue hosting the concert thought that only serving a limited menu of only fried items with only six fryers in sight was a great idea; spoiler, it’s not. So once Daniel tried to order he was told it’d be another 15 minute wait for his food - which at this point would have meant we’d miss the opening of Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps set.
Daniel declined this offer and just ordered three waters, which was three more than they had left.
The merch line seemingly was no better so we didn’t even attempt to deal with that.
The entire crowd was littered with drunk college kids who’d been hanging out in the field they called a parking lot all day. Normally we couldn’t judge a crowd so harshly but ask anyone who was there and they’ll tell you why this one deserves to be judged like this.
Once you’re inside the venue the grounds actually aren’t terrible and it seemingly would be a good place to hold a concert if they could somehow find a way to not throw out political items between sets.
In no way, shape, or form can we ever imagine that Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps will ever step foot back on Sistruck Farms and even if they do the Stamp Tramps will read the reviews from afar; that’s truly how bad this festival was.
Parking Notes: It’s a slightly lit field with one exit, filled with drunk college kids all leaving at one time, and then people cutting each other off because no one is directing traffic until right at the exit. It’s free though, so I guess beggars can’t be choosers.
Travel Notes: We drove from NC to this one which takes you right through Atlanta. If you’re interested in something cool to check out in Atlanta we suggest the Cola-Cola World or any of their art museums! Atlanta is rich with culture and has plenty to do.
If you’re a sports fan you should check out a Falcons game or a Braves game. The dome the Falcons play in is top of the line and, at the time of it’s creation, was the newest most technologically advances stadium in the NFL. It’s worth checking out a game for sure!
And, the Whataburger in Auburn is the one redeeming quality to this festival for sure! Do yourself the favor of going there if you’re around. We’ve been to several Whataburger’s across the country and this one might be the best.
Bonus: If anyone went to this event and had a good time or different experience we’d love to hear from you and feature your thoughts on here! We understand our experience may have been reserved to just us so we’re more than welcome to post a positive review if there is one!
